A baby boy quilt

We have three babies, all sex unknown and due soon-ish. I figured that mean there is a good chance one of them will be a boy and it is as good a time as any to make a boy quilt. Even if all three are girls at some point there has to be a baby boy born. Either way it is a little forward planning.

I used pretty much all of the Atomic Bots I had left. I think I have 5 or 6 squares left. Such a shame because I really love this fabric, it's a really lovely green and blue. It's a good size too, about 45 inches squared

It's pretty basic but at the moment I am really into sewing 5 inch squares.

I am going to bind it in the same green/blue that boarders the blocks.

And then hopefully off to a new home soon.

I am trying really hard to use up all my fabrics I have squirrelled away. I figure it is sort of saving money as I would be making projects for these babies anyway and the fabrics are lovely and well it makes logic to me .

Make It Perfect Shorts

It's getting harder and harder to find things to make for Ryan. So when I saw this shorts pattern  I had to get it. I used the Big Lon Shorts by Make it Perfect. As I was making the shorts I was worries they would be too short, but they are, well, perfect!

I love the knee patches. I turned the fabric so it was in a different direction than the main body of the shorts.

And with the knit band a little bit more grown up than an elastic waist.

The fabric is Parson Gray by Vagabond. It's so lovely. Perfect for my boy turning into a teenager.

On a quiet weekend....

I thought i would make another quilt. Of course, why not it seemed a good thing to do. Saturday night was spent ironing and cutting 5 inch squares. Sunday night was spent sewing pairs and rows and just now I have finished the top. I don't really have any backing at the minute and since these quilts are meant to be using scraps I have put it aside until I have some flannel left over from another project.

This one has a lot of my favourite fabrics, fabrics I had folded away and kept for best but really when is best going to come. I has made the planned item so I unfolded them and most of them I realised were small irregular shapes anyway

Scrappy Quilt

I can not say just how much I am enjoying having my sewing room back. It really was like a part of me was missing, I am finishing projects, starting projects and really feeling so much happier. That could be the house and the fact the whole family is so much happier.

Greta and I go to our local PlayCentre and I have taken it upon myself to update the quilt in the family play area. The old quilt was fine, but well loved and ready for retirement. So much playing and washing had faded the colours.

So I made this today. Well yesterday and today. Just 5 inch squares from various left over fabrics. I love making these quilts, as I go through the fabrics and remember different projects and remember the kids being little. There was no thought it to placement, just nice and random.

New baby Quilt

This weekend I finished off a baby quilt for a friend who has just had a baby girl.

I cut this fabric nearly a year ago. I sewed a few blocks, but since I didn't have anyone for it to go to it just sat there, feeling unloved and getting crinkly. I love the fabric and usually that's enough for me to finish a project, but this one just sat and sat.

So when my friend had her baby I figured this would be perfect.

I don't know the name of the line, the wrapping  is well gone. I love the bikes though, aren't they super cute. The backing is left over from a quilt of Greta's and the binding is some hot pink I had from goodness knows what.

Now all I have to do is send it off. I always feel a bit sad saying good bye to a quilt but know it is going to such a cute wee girl I can handle it, just ;)

Another Batman Quilt

Busy working away on a new quilt for Ryan. As you may recall, Ryan was very envious of Blair's batman quilt. This lead to a demand for one of his own. Who can resist such a request.

All I did was 5 inch squares and randomly sewed Pairs, then fours then into a row of 12.

I found the black fabric tucked in a box and can't remember what I used it for but there was just enough to make two 2.5 inch strips around the edges with a 2.5 of batman fabric.

His room is very bright now. Still needs quilting but at least he will know I have been working on this for him.

Make it Perfect - Mini Zip It

It's been a while, packing, moving, unpacking and slowly become reacquainted with my sewing room. Then finding all my bits and pieces. Whew!!!

Make it Perfect had a sale of their PDF patterns, so I brought one for each child. This is Greta's, Mini Zip It.

My zip is a little wonky but other than that I really like it.

My fabric is Cute little Azalea. It's really lovely and photos taken on a phone just don't do it justice. It is perfect for Greta.

Only problem is she thinks the zip is a fun toy and is always pulling it down.

A great autum dress, teamed with a pair of merino leggings.

I have been making a lot of progress on a quilt for Ryan, batman of course, and I have slowly been finding my motivation to do some sewing.
