Another start

We are away again this weekend. We are very lucky to have a beach house and we try to get away as much as we can. I am an active relaxer so I always pack my sewing machine, fabric and ideas.

I have made a start on my next quilt using heather baileys Nicey Jane fabric. I brought a jelly roll on sale. I could not believe there was one on sale, it's Heather Bailey!!!!! 

I have sewed all the strips into the sets and have started cutting. I love the colours, so summery.

I am still thinking about the pattern, have the blocks sorted but thinking still about the sashings.

And my girls in there matching skirts.

A whole lot of pink

I am trying hard to use up some of the yards of fabric I have. I have has this very bright neon Riley Blake for a while now. Neons been very in fashion at the made me realise I had to move with the times and cut it. I knew Adele would love it and Greta would wear what ever I put her in.

Pumpkin Patch had a sale so I brought matching neon spotty tops and it reminded me I had the pink fabric. I dug it out and made a couple of skirts. I didn't really have enough for Greta's skirt, it is a little short but as she is still in nappies I figure it doesn't really matter. 

   

It is pretty bright, but I am  secretly envious, how could you ever been glum wearing something so happy looking!! 

I made Adele my standard ruffle skirt. 

And Greta, I just sewed all the bits I had left over and put in some elastic.

Yes, I think we have a happy girl!!

Greta is still asleep, so she is yet to see her skirt. I think she loves her top though as she is always walking around with it tucked under her arm.

The Worlds Quickest Skirt

I was feeling a little un-crafty. So I made what has to be the quickest skirt, for real, no lies!!!

I have just made a circle skirt

I had two yards of this Ty Pennington fabric and I thought this would be great for it. I have stashed it away, for no good reason, and with summer fast approaching, it really is a good mix. 

I put a simple merino grey band with it. Perfect for mums! 

I love a quick, rewarding project. Might even wear it tomorrow with a white singlet. Though I am guessing a calm day would be ideal. Any gusts of wind might flip the skirt up.

All done

Finished the quilting and sewn down the binding.

I quilted stars and loops all over the quilt, making sure there was a star in every square.

I used the stripe fabric again for the binding. I thought it worked well with this too. This time I used a machine method to sew it down. And I am happy with how it worked. Much quicker and this really needs to get in the post, ASAP! I still prefer hand sewn, this though is a good compromise. 

I saw this flannel and my kids loved it. Who better to judge a child's quilt than children. I have noticed my scraps of these have vanished! 

All done! 

I know I sound ridiculous but I really do love each quilt I make. Something about the effort and feeling of achievement, this is off to a new home Monday. And I will miss it, better start a new one to take my mind off it!!

Robots Done

I have just finished sewing the last row of this quilt. It's a simple quilt, but as the fabrics are rather busy it works so well. 

It consists of 81 five inch squares, a good 45 inches squared. I brought a half metre of the 7 fabrics and I still have enough for two more baby quilts. Well I think. I want to make a chevron styled quilt and maybe another square one. 

I just adore this fabric, Atomic Bots, but apparently it wasn't so much of a hit. A friend sells fabric and she had quite a bit of this. I would absolutely buy more and make Ryan a quilt if he was a little bit younger. What is not to love about robots?!?!?

And the colours are just lovely. I love the greens. 

Anyway, just have to get some backing tomorrow and finish it off. Not really sure what to bind with at the moment, maybe just a nice matching green. And then send to its new owner, certainly will be sad to say good bye.

Moving Along

Finished sewing the binding down last night. I have come to the conclusion I like the methodical feeling of handing sewing the binding. Slowly but surely I chip away at it. It's almost like therapy.

 

This is the biggest quilt I have ever quilted. I was very nervous I would mess it all up. But I am very pleased with how it turned out. It's funny, now I have started quilting my own, Blair let's me quilt to my hearts content. 

A bright blue scooters, flannel of course.

So moving straight in to my next project,

A whole lot of 5 inch squares have been cut..

For a cute baby boys quilt. Again for a friend who out of the blue contacted me to make this. I really like this fabric. Cute boy fabric without being too babyish. Will last for a while and I am making it a good couch cuddle size. Perfect for a cot and then dragged around for lounging on. Adele still uses her cot quilt, I find it all over the place so guessing this is a good size.

Another Pinterest

I saw a whole bunch of these made and I thought I would give it a go too.

It wasn't as easy as I thought to find a tray at a reasonable price. For a reuse/repurpose type thing it was quite pricey. It does look good compared to a standard black board. But I don't know, I really like the concept of reusing and making new things but even the black board paint was quite a bit. I brought the smallest tin and still have quite a lot left so I will be able to make a few more projects. 

Anyway, on a much more positive note, the kids love it. They have been watching the paint dry, no word of a lie, waiting to patiently to use it. Once it was dry we didn't have any chalk. But since we are home now and they might be in bed I found a couple of chalk pens so I am guessing there will be a lot of drawing tomorrow. 

I am guessing it will get a lot of use.

A Halloween Dress

Whilst we don't celebrate Halloween in NZ, as soon as I saw this cute fabric I knew I had to have it. I made a dress for Greta but Adele was most upset that she missed out. I have a little bit left so if course I will see if I can scrap something together.

I love the scary ghouls, they look so friendly!! 

This wee witch is my favourite I think.

I love this dress pattern. It's nice and roomy for long merino tops underneath in winter, or as today, perfect as a summer dress.
